What to do:
1. Prepare the cake: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. Whisk together the egg whites, milk and vanilla extract, set aside. Beat the butter with the sugar until fluffy, about 5 minutes. Alternately add the flour mixture and egg mixture to butter mixture, beating well after each addition. Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan. Bake until cake pulls away from the sides of the pan, about 30 minutes. Cool the cake completely before removing it from the baking pan.
2. Make the shape: Cut the cake into a stroller shape. Begin by rounding the corners of the cake. Cut out a rectangular piece of cake from the top left corner (3-inches deep by 7-inches wide). Enjoy this extra piece of undecorated cake with a cup of tea!
3. Color the frostings: Divide one container of frosting between three bowls. Tint one bowl pink, one bowl blue and leave the third bowl white. Place each color in a re-sealable plastic bag with snipped corner, set aside. Tint remaining frosting container, yellow.
4. Decorate the cake: Completely cover the cake with yellow frosting. Using the photo as your guide, pipe white lines on the stroller’s shade. Edge the top of the shape with white dots. Pipe a lattice pattern on the bed of the stroller with blue and pink frosting, about ½-inch apart. Dot the lattice chocolate candies. Place doughnut halves at the bottom of the cake as its wheels. Pipe the center vanilla frosting. Stack chocolate wafer cookies and place them in the left edge of the cake as the stroller’s handle.
*Professional tip: Bake the cake layers the day before. Frosting a day-old cake is much easier than frosting a freshly-baked cake.
